Mandriva Improves Silicon Motion Driver
Along with VIA releasing a new open-source X.Org video driver, there is work underway on improving the status of another open-source graphics driver. Silicon Motion is perhaps more obscure than VIA Technologies when it comes to integrated graphics, but they primarily specialize in low-power graphics chips for tablet PCs. The xf86-video-siliconmotion driver usually only receives a handful of commits a year and from a few different developers such as Adam Jackson, Egbert Eich, and Alex Deucher...

DRM Patches For Linux 2.6.27 Kernel
The Linux 2.6.26 kernel had featured updated Intel and ATI DRM that added the needed kernel support for the ATI R500 and Intel GMA 4500 3D support. While the merge window for the Linux 2.6.27 kernel has already closed, we will hopefully see a few more Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) patches...

AMD OverDrive On Linux
When it comes to ATI hardware, one of the features we have been after for the longest time on Linux has been any overclocking support. Windows users have ATI's OverDrive at their disposal along with an arsenal of third-party utilities such as ATI Tool. NVIDIA also has various utilities for overclocking their graphics cards on Windows, but they also provide support for overclocking on Linux. Today though with the release of the Catalyst 8.8 Linux driver there is finally ATI OverDrive 5 support on Linux.

if you can buy the most expensive phone with an OLED screen why would you buy the crappiest of the netbooks? that's like comparing a Kawasaki Ninja vs a Ford Ka. mine has a LED screen.
I can't imagine anyone browsing on tiny cellphone screens.

ATI Radeon CrossFire On Linux
Back in June we had exclusively shared that CrossFire would be coming to Linux as part of their Radeon HD 4800 series strategy. CrossFire (or CrossFire X as it's now known) allows the graphics rendering workload to be split between multiple Radeon GPUs to deliver faster performance. Meanwhile, NVIDIA's multi-GPU technology known as SLI (Scalable Link Interface) has been supported on Linux since 2005. While AMD is still working to address some issues with their ATI Linux driver, they have been working hard on new features like CrossFire. How does this feature work though on Linux and does it deliver similar performance gains to their Windows driver? Today we have a full rundown on ATI CrossFire for Linux along with benchmarks from the ATI Radeon HD 4850 and Radeon HD 4870.

NVIDIA 177.68 Beta Driver
Tuesday the NVIDIA 177.67 Display Driver was released and then yesterday the ATI Catalyst 8.8 Driver came out with OverDrive and CrossFire support. Today though we are back with another NVIDIA Linux driver release. Due to fallout from the 177.67 driver, NVIDIA has replaced it just two days later with the 177.68 Beta.
Angry Telemarketer Calls Back, Chews You Out For Hanging Up
I have a friend who works as a telemarketer. It's one thing when he gets hang-ups, but he's also had people threaten to come down to the office and shoot him. If you are on the do-not-call list, file a complaint. If you aren't don't get upset about it.
On a funny side note, at a previous job he once had to call someone who had won a drawing for a $2000 canoe in a raffle. The winner's wife hung up on him thinking it was a scam. He called back. That guy was really happy he did.
There is a company in my area that calls and asks you if you'll answer a few questions for a survey. I was bored so I answered. They said they'd put me in a drawing. A couple weeks later they called and said I'd won 1/2 off on siding. I've won twice now!!! Now I just need to see if I can use both coupons at the same time. It seems to be a legitimate company using a sleazy tactic to get around the no-call list using the survey exemption.

Clearly we need food regulation here: we can't allow consumers to help themselves to food. Consumers clearly will over eat if you let them and this is bad. Licensed food professionals should be necessary in all grocery stores to prevent them from over purchasing mass quantities of food.

Read MoreWoman Removes Bra To Get Through TSA
@JamieSueAustin: I don't really like putting all my liquids in 100 ml containers, sizing my suitcase to fit in the overhead bin, or wearing shoes that are easy to remove. Granted, all of these have nothing to do with my anatomy, but they're the only examples that affect me today. If someday I end up with a metal hip that sets off the detector, develop a disability, or progress into the two-seat-needing range, I'm sure I'll find the extra burdens annoying too. But I'd understand at that point that I'm an exception, not the rule. Systems are designed to work for 90% of the people 90% of the time. It's not economical to do it any other way. (Of course, in the case of the TSA, it sucks for 90% of the people 90% of the time. They should work on that.)
They're not saying you can't fly unless you make adjustments to your wardrobe. You have the option to do whatever you want to. You could seek a screening-friendly bra or you can take the risk that your metal-containing bra will set off the detector. If that happens, you might be subjected to additional screening, like any one else who sets off the detector for any reason. Maybe they'll take you at your word when you say "it's my bra", maybe they won't. Maybe they have a maybe they have a millimeter-wave scanner and can see all that's going on underneath everyone's clothes.
But what do I know? I'm just some guy on the internet who went to [biggerbras.com] , found a 56K soft cup bra, and decided I am now qualified to unleash my advice on the world.

The Herald Return of The H/PC - Review of the HTC Advantage X7510 Part 2
In the first part of my review of the HTC Advantage X7510, I covered the physical hardware of this new device that resides somewhere between Handheld PCs and Ultra Mobile PCs. If you haven’t had a chance to read the first part of the review, you can do so here and then pick up this review afterward.
In this part of the review I will be covering the software aspects of the device now that I have received the final shipping ROM from HTC. I will start by covering Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, the Operating System of the X7510 and will then go into the specific applications that come with the device. I’ll conclude with a general discussion of what I like and don’t like about the Advantage and if this is a device that you should consider.

OCZ Alchemy Elixir Keyboard
When thinking of OCZ Technology what comes to mind? High-end DDR3? DDR2 with large and unique heatspreaders? Their Neural Impulse Actuator? Chances are you're thinking of them for their memory products they've been manufacturing for eight years, but not for any OCZ-branded keyboards. However, OCZ has done just that and they've introduced their very first keyboard targeted towards gamers. The Elixir Keyboard is part of OCZ's growing Alchemy series of gaming products. We're not terribly surprised that OCZ has introduced a keyboard, seeing as this company is extremely innovative and has been on the fast track since acquiring PC Power & Cooling and Hypersonic PC last year. Today at Phoronix we are checking out this first OCZ keyboard named the Elixir.

I tote two different laptops between locations these days, switching them out (or sometimes bringing both) depending upon what my needs will be once I’ve arrived. For the most part, I’ve been content to slip my MacBook Air into a bag, a sleeve, or the Agent 18 shell that Dan recently forwarded to me, but I hadn’t yet found a similar slim and protective MacBook Pro shell. Bear in mind, the type of transport I usually do involves grabbing my laptop, throwing it into my Louis Vuitton Alto tote (along with a couple days’ worth of clothing), and then driving to my destination (and back). This is what I do days when I am traveling as lightly as possible, and I don’t want to bring a full-sized laptop bag.
When I first saw the DecoCases EcoDesign Case for MacBook Pro, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the hard-shell aluminum cases I have long enjoyed on my PDAs. I’d never really thought about using something similar on a laptop, but I would soon have the opportunity to see if I’d like it…
